Save money visiting an art city: buy a museum pass!

Art cities can be cheaper
Art cities can be cheaper

One of the cheapest ways to save money visiting an art city is to get a museum pass that allows you to enter museums and tourist attractions. You normally find them at the tourist offices spread in the city centre, at the airport or station.

Some examples: Turin

Let’s start from Turin, my city, just to show you that buying one of these passes can really make the difference when it comes to visiting museums and you want to save some money.

Torino has several themed passes that allow you to visit museums, use public transport, and some shuttles to attractions outside the city. The general one is the “Torino + Piemonte card”. It includes attractions all over the Piedmont Region. Consider that if you want to visit the entire Reggia of Venaria, you will have to spend 18 euros. If you also want to visit a museum like the Egyptian Museum, the ticket may cost 11/15 euros, for a total of 33 euros. The one-day pass costs 23 euros. So you can save up to 10 euros. Not bad, uh?

And of course Milan

Milano has the Milano Tourist card. For 12 euros you will have free access to many sites like the Gam, Modern Art Gallery, the Museum of the Castello Sforzesco, or the Archeological Museum. The card lasts three days and it can be also purchased online.

But also Rome, Florence, and Naples

Rome has two cards, one lasting 48 hours and the other 72. You can visit 1 or 2 museums but you’ll have full access to transport and discounts for events or exhibitions.

Florence is a bit expensive. The pass costs 72 euros and lasts 72 hours. But you can enter once to all the museums in the cities. Not bad if you consider that they boast the most famous art galleries and chiostri in the world!

Who knew Venezia was the cheapest! With 24 euros you can buy a Museum Pass that lasts 6 months and allows you to enter once in every tourist site of the city. You can book it also on the phone, so you can save money and time too!

Bologna has two different Welcome Cards that also include free tours and the shuttle for the airport among other services or discounts. The one that costs 20 euros lasts 48 hours, while the one that costs 30 euros lasts 72 hours.

Artecard is the name of the pass to visit Napoli. You can choose the general one for 21 euros that lasts 3 days, or thematic cards like the one dedicated to the holy places of the city’s Patron Saint.

Did you get the trick? Search on Google the for the city you are going to visit. Write the Name of the city + museum card, museum pass, tessera musei and see what the city offers.

You might find the shuttle from Airport to the city center or discounts for your shopping. You can order the cards online or buy them as soon as you arrive in the city. Sometimes even hotels sell these passes. And if you need help, write a comment here and tell me the city you would like to visit. I’ll be happy to search if there is a pass and eventually, I will update this list!
