Welcome back, my dear silent readers of The Italian Blog! One week ago I visited “This is Wonderland” a themed park in Rome where reality and imagination intertwine to create a Wonderland like no other. Wonderland has found its temporary Rome at Eur and is an immersive and enchanting experience that has taken the Eternal City by storm. Every night it is packed with people, but to me, it is definitely worth a visit.
I cannot be objective here, because Alice in Wonderland has always been my favourite tale. Not only that, it is my personal mantra: being myself and remaining authentic is something I repeat to my inner child when stress and problems seem overwhelming. So I can rewatch movies dedicated to Alice over and over or re-read the novel. When my sister proposed to me to visit the park I could not say no. But it should be clear this is a personal blog. You can find what I Like. Anyway, back to the main topic.
First of all, the location
EUR, short for Esposizione Universale Roma, is a modern and affluent district located in the southern part of Rome, Italy. Designed during the fascist era as a planned urban community, EUR boasts a striking blend of classical and contemporary architecture, wide boulevards, and green spaces. It is known for its grandeur, including iconic landmarks like the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana, often referred to as the “Square Colosseum.” Today, EUR is a thriving hub for business, culture, and entertainment, offering a glimpse of Rome’s architectural evolution and urban development.
And how to reach it
Wonderland has its temporary home here. You can reach it by car, the B line of the subway (Stop: Eur Palasport) or the buses n. 070, 30, 31, 714, 791 which stop near Giardino delle Cascate, the Garden of Waterfalls.
As you will visit it in the evening, do not worry if the park and the surroundings are dark. I think the lights are off for the purpose. In this way, you can enjoy Wonderland better. So walk to the main entrance even if the area is dark.
Yes but, what is “This is Wonderland”?
“This is Wonderland” is a unique, immersive art installation that transports visitors into a world of wonder and creativity. Located in the heart of Eur, Rome, this captivating experience is a blend of art, technology, and storytelling that promises to leave you spellbound. With the help of cutting-edge technology and a dash of magic, “This is Wonderland” reimagines the classic tale of Alice in a way you’ve never seen before.
As you step into “This is Wonderland,” you’ll instantly be transported to a world where the lines between reality and fantasy blur. The experience is a testament to the power of art and creativity, as it brings to life the stories and characters you know and love in an entirely new light.
Immersive Environments
One of the standout features of “This is Wonderland” is its immersive environment. The creators have meticulously crafted stunning sets and installations that provide the perfect backdrop for your adventure. Whether you find yourself in a fairytale forest or a surreal dreamscape, each environment is designed to evoke a sense of wonder and awe.
You will find yourself wandering through giant flowers, cards, mirrors, and of course all of Lewis Carroll’s characters.
