Amazing Restaurants to Eat at the Turin’s Market of Porta Palazzo

7 August 2023 by Lori Leave a Comment

Among the bustling markets of Turin, two stand out as must-visit destinations for locals and tourists alike: the Balon Flea Market and the market of Porta Palazzo. And the research keys to this blog show that many people come here to have infos about these two markets.

But where can you stop to eat? Let’s delve into my top favorite restaurants to eat in Porta Palazzo near the Balon Flea Market and the Market of Porta Palazzo, where delectable dishes and culinary delights await.

Let’s recap: Balon, Gran Balon, and Porta Palazzo

The Balon Flea Market is a treasure trove of antiquities and unique finds. Nestled in the heart of Turin’s historic district, takes place every Saturday and the second Sunday of each month. This lively market brings together a diverse array of vendors offering everything from vintage clothing and furniture to rare collectibles. Strolling through the narrow alleys of Balon, visitors are immersed in a world of timeless charm and hidden gems. This is a true paradise for antique enthusiasts and curious souls.

On the other hand, the market of Porta Palazzo is a vibrant and colorful hub of activity. As one of the largest open-air markets in Europe, it is open from Monday to Friday 7-14 and on Saturday 7-19.

It delights visitors with an extensive range of fresh produce, cheeses, spices, and countless other gastronomic delights. This bustling market showcases the rich culinary traditions of Italy, drawing in locals and visitors to explore its lively stalls and sample the finest flavors that Turin has to offer. The best deals are early in the morning (if you are looking for fresh produce and rarities) or late in the day, when vendors start reducing prices to sell as much as they can.

Il Gran Maghreb

Transport yourself to the enchanting world of Moroccan and North African cuisine at Il Gran Maghreb. Located in Piazza della Repubblica 24, right in the square where the market of Porta Palazzo takes place. This charming eatery serves up a delightful fusion of aromatic spices, tender meats, and delightful couscous dishes. With its warm ambiance and flavorful offerings, Il Gran Maghreb provides a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle of the market.

Mercato Centrale

For those seeking a taste of Italy’s culinary wonders, Mercato Centrale is an absolute must-visit. This food haven boasts a selection of local specialties, artisanal cheeses, fresh pasta, and delectable pastries. Whether you’re in the mood for a traditional Italian pizza or a scrumptious plate of homemade pasta, Mercato Centrale has you covered with an array of delightful options.

What I love about this place is that if you are craving pizza, you can take it from the counter that sells it and then eat it with your family who might want to have something different. You order food at the different counters and then take a seat wherever you want. As soon as you sit, a waiter will come to pick up your drink order and bring it to you at the table. You can pay directly to them with cash or credit card.

I strongly recommend leaving some space for a maritozzo, a traditional sweet from Rome. It is a brioche with thick whipped cream and the bakery prepares it fresh every hour!

Pescheria Gallina

When I crave fish, especially the so-called fritto misto, a mix of fried fish, I come here. Pescheria Gallina is a seafood haven that offers the freshest catch of the day. Situated within the market, this seafood restaurant prides itself on sourcing the finest seafood from local waters. Indulge in a seafood platter, a mouthwatering seafood risotto, or simply savor the delicate flavors of the ocean in their delectable dishes.

Al Jazeera

Step into the exotic world of Middle Eastern cuisine at Al Jazeera, another gem amidst the vibrant market. With its aromatic spices and mouthwatering flavors, Al Jazeera offers an authentic taste of the Mediterranean. From succulent kebabs to flavorful falafels, their menu is a tantalizing journey through the Middle East that is not to be missed.

Next time you find yourself exploring the vibrant markets of Turin, be sure to indulge in the culinary delights at Al Jazeera, Mercato Centrale, Pescheria Gallina, and Il Gran Maghreb. These exceptional eateries promise to elevate your market experience, leaving you with unforgettable memories of Turin’s delectable food scene.
